Nick Good does some pushups in front of his crew, which includes Chris Martin, Jeremy Gibson, Weston Smith, Sara Waybrant and Todd Clites — not in that order in the picture. All but Smith, a crew boss from Springfield, Ore., hail from the Boise area.

Fires in the West are pulling in crews from around the country. This week, The Denver Post photographed a crew of firefighters from Boise in Fort Collins, Colo., helping fight the High Park Fire.

That fire has burned 100 square miles in the north part of the state and destroyed 191 homes — more than any other fire in the state’s history.

The Boise-area firefighters work for PatRick Environmental Inc., a southern Oregon company that contracts with the federal government to fight fires.

This is a crew doing the hard, hot, grunt work of carving out fire lines. The Post photographer got the firefighters between duties while at the Fort Collins command post.
