Firefighters from Kuna and Melba are working to put out a massive haystack fire off Swan Falls Road that ignited Friday morning.

The report of the fire was called into Ada County dispatchers around 5:15 a.m. Friday. When firefighters arrived at the field in the 2700 block of Swan Falls Road, they found a 265 ton haystack actively burning and called for mutual aid.

Fire crews are still working on cooling down the blaze and trying to make sure it does not spread to any nearby buildings or grass. Crews were still working at 3 p.m. Friday and firefighters expect to be there until dark. No one was injured in the fire.

The rising internal temperature in a haystack can cause it to self-combust on hot days.
