Temperatures soar, wildfires burn in Idaho

Published: June 22, 2012

How hot was it Thursday? The high in Boise was 96 — the hottest day of the year so far, according to the National Weather Service. The humidity dropped to 6 percent.

It wasn’t hot enough to set a record, though. The record for June 21, set in 1955, is 102.

Friday will cool down to about 89; highs this weekend will be in the 80s.

A ban on outdoor open fires was announced Thursday in Nampa due to concern about an explosive fire threat and numerous reports of wildfires. Firefighters across the region were called to small fires Thursday, including the 10-acre Freeze Fire southwest of Emmett. Boise County had several fires, including a 3-acre fire at Wilderness Ranch.
