During his visit to Boise State earlier this year, Durrant Miles watched film of the Broncos defense, and linebacker Shea McClellin in particular.
Coaches told the Bingham High (South Jordan, Utah) senior-to-be that was the position he would play. McClellin was a first-round pick by the Chicago Bears in April.
I couldnt believe it. Their whole defense is basically run around that position, Miles said. Theyre always calling stunts for him, dropping him into coverage and blitzing him.
Miles, 6-foot-4, 225-pounds, committed to Boise State on Tuesday, one day after the Broncos offered him a scholarship. He attended camp at Boise State last week.
Miles had offers from Utah State and Hawaii, he said, and was scheduled to visit Utah on Wednesday.
Hes one of the best leaders Ive ever coached, Bingham coach Dave Peck said. I feel like hes a no-brainer. I cant believe he doesnt have a lot of other offers.
Like McClellin did in Boise States defensive scheme, Miles will play some defensive end during his senior season, Peck said. Four of his teammates have Division I offers.
Miles, who also plays center on the basketball team, plans to go on an LDS mission in late 2013 before enrolling at Boise State, likely before the 2016 season.
I just knew it was the place for me when I met all the coaches, Miles said. (Chris Petersen) has got it all figured out. I loved the facilities, loved everything up there. Everything about Boise told me I need to be there.
Boise State does not have a player from Utah on its roster.
