Capital High quarterback commits to Montana

Published: June 19, 2012

Makena Simis, who will be a senior this fall, attended the Grizzlies’ camp last week. Montana, a perennial power in the Football Championship Subdivision, was the first team to offer the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Simis.

The Grizzlies’ history of success, their rabid fan base, his relationship with offensive coordinator Timm Rosenbach, and their no-huddle offense, similar to Capital’s, appealed to Simis, the son of Capital coach Todd Simis.

Montana is without a full-time coach after the firing of Robin Pflugrad and investigations into the football program by the NCAA and federal law enforcement officials. Simis said the issues with the program did not bother him.

“As long as they have a good season, they’ll keep the same coaching staff,” he said. “And if they don’t, there’s going to be coaches lined up. It’s the best FCS program you can go to.”
