Twenty-two Treasure Valley schools will get more than $700,000 in Go On Schools grants from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation to encourage students to continue education after high school. The program is designed to set high expectations, help students make a plan for postsecondary learning and offer students counseling about financial aid and scholarships to help pay for higher education.
The Albertson Foundation launched the Go On campaign in 2009, offering $11 million in scholarships at Idaho colleges to help student afford their education.
"Idaho is ranked among the bottom 10 states when it comes to students going on to some sort of postsecondary education after high school, says Jamie MacMillan, the foundation's executive director. Weve learned that schools, students and parents face a lot of barriers when it comes to helping kids go on, so we wanted to give schools and communities the resources they need to support, counsel, guide and mentor all students to go on to education or training beyond high school.
