Vallivue High golfer out front at women’s amateur

Gabby Barker moved into the lead Thursday during the second round of the IGA Women’s Amateur at Falcon Crest Golf Club in Kuna.

Barker, a junior-to-be, shot a second straight 2-over 74 and leads college golfer Maddie Sheils (Nebraska) of Boise by one shot and 5A high school state champ Amy Hasenoehrl of Lewiston by two.

Barker had the most impressive second round in her group — beating first-round leader Hasenoehrl by four shots and recent Centennial High graduate Kathryn Buckingham by six.

Sheils shot the round of the day, a 73. The final round is Friday.

LOCAL JUNIORS: Josh Gliege of Eagle and Ryleigh Moore of Meridian won the boys and girls divisions, respectively, of the Junior Rocky Mountain PGA Championship on Thursday at Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman, Mont. They qualified for the Junior PGA Championship, which is July 31-Aug. 3 in Fort Wayne, Ind. Gliege, 14, shot a two-day total of 140 to win by four. Moore, 16, shot 155 to win by 11.
