Whose list is it? Outside magazine publishes a Best Towns Ever issue each year touting the livability of the nations hamlets.
This year, its all about the water: The magazine has teamed up with the environmental nonprofit American Rivers to pick the top 10 river towns including Boise in the U.S. Outside will choose a winner based on votes on its Facebook page. Find the link on the right-hand side of this story, under the ad, then vote before July 10.
Were in good company: The other contenders are Hood River, Ore.; Nevada City, Calif.; Asheville, N.C.; Milwaukee; Nashville, Tenn.; Missoula, Mont.; Durango, Colo.; Ithaca, N.Y.; and Richmond, Va.
Dreamy and active: To find the finalists, Outside and American Rivers scoured the nation for burgs that have both the usual dreamy quality-of-living criteria and also an active recreational engagement with nearby waterways, according to a news release.
