MIKE AND KATE, MIX 106

KCIX 105.9, 376-5106

Why are Mike and Kate perennial contenders for this category? It’s simple — they’re fun and love interacting with the community.

In his song “WOLD,” Harry Chapin sang about a sunrise DJ with “the bright good-morning voice who’s heard but never seen.” This dynamic duo is just the opposite of that. You can’t miss them playing all the hits from 5:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. weekdays or seeing them out and about.

Sure, you can hear “OPP” or “Willie Waffle Movie Review” only through your radio, but they visit and participate in many events around the area and use social media to keep in touch with their listeners.

Kate frequently updates an entertaining blog on the Mix 106 website and makes book suggestions every month, and as the temperature outside climbs, she continues her crusade against short-shorts that are one or two sizes too small: “... The only attention these mini-shorts are getting you is the head turns from people saying, ‘Oh, my gosh. She shouldn’t be wearing that!’ ”
