Published: June 7, 2012

Senior Kurt Felix won the men's decathlon title Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Felix finished with 8,062 points, more than 100 points better than second-place finisher Romain Martin of the University of Texas-Arlington. Martin finished with 7,956 points.

Felix won the long jump Wednesday, and followed that performance with a win in the javelin Thursday. Felix won the javelin with a throw of 227 feet, 6 inches, while Martin took second in the event with a toss of 210 feet, 6 inches.

Felix finished 17th in the final event, the 1,500-meter run, but he had built up more than enough points to bring home the championship.
