Nampa mayor clarifies his comments on job prospects for Transform Solar employees

Published: June 1, 2012

Nampa Mayor Tom Dale clarified a statement he made Thursday saying the "vast majority" of 250 people facing layoffs from Transform Solar will be hired by Micron Technology Inc.

In an interview with NewsRadio KINF, Dale said Micron officials "anticipate most of those people would be able to be absorbed into the Micron workforce."

Officials at Micron, which is a part owner of the Nampa-based plant, say employees at Transform Solar will have the opportunity to apply for jobs at Micron. But company officials won't speculate on how many will be hired.

"In many instances the skill sets of the employees at Transform directly apply to the operations at Micron," said Dan Francisco, company spokesman.

In an interview with the Idaho Statesman following the KINF interview, Dale said he "hoped" most of the employees would get jobs at Micron. "I have no inside information."

Transform Solar, a company that makes lightweight solar cells, announced this week it would stop operations after facing a challenging solar market where prices have dropped sharply.
