All bikes stolen from women's pro racing team recovered; Boise police seek thieves

Published: May 23, 2012

Disaster averted: Members of the California-based Tibco-To The Top racing team were thrilled that Boise police recovered 13 bikes stolen overnight Tuesday from a trailer outside their hotel.

“A huge relief”: U.S. cyclist and Tibco team member Megan Guarnier, above at left, said getting the bikes back “makes a world of difference. It’s kind of like an extension of yourself, and to have that taken away from you is not a good feeling.”

Backed by Boise: The Tibco team said it was comforted by the “outpouring of support” from residents, police and other cyclists, who offered equipment. “It was a good feeling from the community,” Guarnier said.

Whodunit? Police are still trying to figure out who broke into the trailer outside the Holiday Inn by the Boise Airport. The thief made off with the custom racing bikes, valued at more than $70,000. Know something? Call Crime Stoppers at 343-2677.

Where were they found? A tip led police to six of the bikes locked together on a rack on the Boise State campus at about noon Wednesday. By 2 p.m., the remaining seven bikes had been found at other unspecified campus locations.
