Attention kids: It's time to 'Draw Your Dad'

Published: May 20, 2012

2009's HONORABLE MENTION: Here is 8-year-old Sofia Fregoso’s drawing of her dad, Hugo. In 2006, her older sister Isabella was our Draw Your Dad winner.

What is it? “Draw Your Dad” is the Idaho Statesman’s Father’s Day art contest. Kids 12 or younger can create portraits of the man they call dad and send them to the Statesman. Winners will be chosen by a panel of community judges, and the winners and a selection of the drawings will be published on Father’s Day, June 17.

What can you draw with? Pencils, crayons, pastels, paints, pens ... anything.

What’s the deadline? 5 p.m. June 7.

Are there prizes? You bet! This year’s first prize is a $100 gift certificate from Dillard’s, Boise Towne Square; second prize is a $50 gift certificate from Rediscovered Book Shop, 180 N. 8th St., Boise; and third prize is a family membership at the Discovery Center of Idaho, 131 Myrtle St., Boise. Honorable mentions each receive a $10 gift certificate at City Peanut Shop, 803 W. Bannock St.

How do you enter? Download an entry form from one of the two links at the right. Make sure to fill out all the information. You must include a photo of your dad with his name and yours on the back. Attach it to the entry form with a glue stick. No tape or staples, please. Mail it to the address on the form or drop it off at the Statesman, 1200 N. Curtis Road, Boise.

Entries will not be accepted by email. Prizes must be picked up at the Idaho Statesman. Parents can pick up drawings in the Statesman lobby June 18-22. No purchase necessary.

Materials submitted to the Idaho Statesman may be published or distributed in print, electronic or other forms. Idaho Statesman employees and their families are not eligible to enter.
