The Treasure Valley YMCA will be offering music therapy classes, starting the last week of February.
The classes will be offered to three groups of people: children who struggle with attention deficits and mood management; caregivers who work with people that have chronic illnesses; and families looking to strengthen their relationships.
The Improving Child Behavior, Attention, and Mood through Music groups (ages 7 and up) will be offered 4 p.m.-5 p.m. Wednesdays at the West Y and Fridays from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Healthy Living Branch. The sessions will aim to provide children with a fun and creative way to engage peers and learn musical techniques for improving focus and managing moods and behavior. The cost will be $65 for a month of therapy sessions.
The Caring for the Caregivers groups will be from 1 p.m.-2 p.m. Thursdays at the West Y and 11 a.m.-noon Fridays at the Healthy Living Branch. These groups will provide a supportive experience for caregivers seeking techniques to help manage the stress, anxiety, and grief of caregiving. The cost for a month of therapeutic sessions is $65.
The Family Music groups will meet from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Mondays at the West Y facility and from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Healthy Living Branch offices at 1150 W. State St., across from the Downtown Y facility.
Music-based interactions and games will help cultivate relationships between family members. For a month of therapeutic sessions, the cost for a family of two is $90 and for a family of three or more the cost is $115.
