Meridian police said a Boise woman was breaking into vehicles and taking items early Monday.
Mariah Victoria Singleton, 21, was charged with 10 felony counts of burglary, according to Meridian police Sgt. Matt Parsons. Singleton was being held in the Ada County Jail Monday.
"The reporting party could see several dome lights on in different vehicles," he said.
After a search, police found Singleton at 2nd and Maple streets.
Officers recovered some stolen property and returned it to the appropriate owners, Parsons said, but other property could be involved.
Without specifically identifying the property Singleton had possession of at the time of her arrest, Parsons said items commonly stolen include firearms, electronics and cash.
All of the vehicles that were burglarized in this case were unlocked, he said.
"We would like to remind citizens that many of these burglaries can be prevented by a few simple steps: making sure garage doors are closed at night, locking vehicles, keeping outside areas well-lit, and if you keep valuables in your vehicle, making sure they are out of sight," Parsons said.
He also recommends keeping a list in a safe place with the make, model and serial number of valuable items. "Ninety-eight percent of what is stolen does not have a serial number that is reported," he said.
Parsons said victims of burglary should not clean up before police arrive.
"Call the police department first. We do not want to hear about it the next day," he said.
Singleton is expected to make an initial court appearance this week.
The maximum penalty for a felony burglary charge is 5 years in prison, and a $5,000 fine, he said.
