Officials say two Horseshoe Bend residents were impersonating police officers, stopping vehicles and fleeing from actual law enforcement early Monday.
Lloyd Wayne Asher, 21, and a male juvenile are charged with felony impersonating a police officer, felony eluding police and misdemeanors of drunken driving, battery and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
According to a release, the two men were stopping cars with their Toyota pickup truck using a flashing light. The men would approach the stopped cars and ask for identification.
Boise County Dispatch took the first call about 4 a.m. Monday.
The male driver and female passenger from Washington state were frightened for their personal safety and the safety of a child with them, they told police. Officials said that the two men started hitting the male when he confronted them about not being actual police officers.
The man was able to get away from the two suspects and drive away, but the suspects pursued them in their vehicle and attempted to force them off the road. The suspects got ahead of the callers vehicle and came back at them head-on to force them off the road, police said. The suspects then left south on Idaho 55 and headed back toward Horseshoe Bend.
Deputies from Boise and Gem counties and Idaho State Police searched for the suspects, finding them at a gas station attempting to pull over another driver heading through Horseshoe Bend. The suspects fled, with ISP giving chase. The suspects pulled into a driveway on the 100 block of Riverside Drive in Horseshoe Bend and both men fled on foot.
Deputies and troopers searched the area and found the suspects in a backyard and inside a house. Both suspects were transported to Idaho State Police headquarters in Meridian for further questioning.
Officials said both suspects later confessed. Asher was booked into the Ada County Jail. The teen was taken to the Ada County Juvenile Detention Center.
