Two Treasure Valley women were fined Wednesday for mistakenly leaving handguns in their purses while entering the James A. McClure Federal Building in Boise last year.

Suzanne Dawn Cummins was fined $500 for carrying a Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol loaded with a magazine containing six bullets into the building on July 22, 2011. The 41-year-old Cummins, who lives in Murphy, apologized to U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald E. Bush Wednesday, saying she forgot that the gun was in her purse until it was discovered by courthouse security that day.

Christina Marie Landon was fined $300 for having a loaded Ruger .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun in her purse while going through security at the courthouse on Aug. 3. The 37-year-old Landon, who is from Nampa and has an Idaho concealed weapons permit, told Bush Wednesday she knew she wasn’t allowed to have a gun in the courthouse but simply forgot it was in her purse.

Both women pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of possessing firearms in a federal facility.
