Canyon Countys passport office, which has long shared the elections office next to the county courthouse, will move to the main courthouse building effective Feb. 27, county officials announced Tuesday. Passport applications will be received and processed in the Recorders Office, Room 246 on the second floor of the courthouse, 1115 Albany St. Caldwell. Passport agents will be available starting at 10 a.m. weekdays, and applicants must arrive by 4:30 p.m. to begin processing, according to a county news release. In recent years the volume of passport applicants in Canyon County has risen dramatically, officials said, and the increased demands on the elections office make it impossible to continue processing passports there. Election consolidation has more than doubled the number of elections conducted by the county, including the school levy elections set for six local school districts March 13. The demands of redistricting and the upcoming presidential election also contribute to the need for moving passport operations, according to a county news release. Passport applications are available in the county recorders office and can also be filled out on-line at www.travel.state.gov. The telephone number for the passports office will remain 454-7562.
