GIRLS STATE TITLES DECIDED THIS WEEK
The state tournaments for girls basketball invade the Treasure Valley this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All of the championship games will be played Saturday at the Idaho Center in Nampa. Here is a list of local qualifiers, plus the locations for each tournament and the championship game tipoff time:
5A: Vallivue, Eagle, Meridian, Rocky Mountain, Centennial. Location: Idaho Center, Nampa. Title game: 8 p.m.
4A: Middleton, Skyview, Bishop Kelly. Location: Timberline. Title game: 6 p.m.
3A: Weiser, Fruitland. Location: Middleton High. Title game: 3:50 p.m.
2A: Melba, Nampa Christian. Location: Kuna High. Title game: 1:40 p.m.
1A Division I: Liberty Charter, Notus. Location: Columbia. Title game: 11:30 a.m.
1A Division II: Tri-Valley. Location: Nampa High. Title game: 9:30 a.m.
WRESTLERS VIE FOR DISTRICT TITLES
District Three wrestlers in 15 weight classes and four classifications battle for a place in the state tournament, which runs Feb. 24-25 at Holt Arena in Pocatello and features 16 wrestlers in each weight class. Here is the information on this week’s district championships:
5A: Friday (1 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m.) at Capital High. Title matches tentatively set for 5 p.m. Saturday (top nine wrestlers advance to state).
4A: Thursday (4 p.m.) and Friday (noon) at Caldwell High. Title matches tentatively set for 7 p.m. Friday (top five advance).
3A: Saturday (9:30 a.m.) at Payette High. Title matches tentatively set for 7 p.m. (top four advance).
2A/1A: Saturday (10 a.m.) at Marsing High. Title matches tentatively set for 3 p.m. (top three advance).
DISTRICT PLAY TIPS OFF IN BOYS HOOPS
The regular season wrapped up for all six divisions last week, and postseason play gets under way this week.
5A: Tuesday through Feb. 24 at Rocky Mountain and Eagle high schools (4.5 state berths available).
4A: Tuesday through Feb. 23 at higher seeds and Middleton High (2.5 state berths available).
3A: Monday through Feb. 23 at Treasure Valley Community College (2 state berths available).
2A: Tuesday through Feb. 23 at higher seeds and Vallivue High (2.5 state berths available).
1A Division I: Thursday through Feb. 23 at higher seeds and Caldwell High (2.5 state berths available).
1A Division II: Thursday through Feb. 23 at higher seeds and McCall-Donnelly High (1.5 state berths available).
