Santorum visits Boise tonight; Romney is due Friday

What’s the buzz? The GOP race for president isn’t yet a two-man contest, but the National Review, an influential conservative journal, said Monday that Rick Santorum should become the “principal challenger” to Mitt Romney.

How to see Santorum? The rally begins at 7 p.m. in the Capital High School auditorium. The event is free and first-come, first-served.

Where’s Romney? The front-runner with the Idaho GOP establishment behind him will be raising money in Boise Friday at $2,500 and $1,000 per person. He’s also expected to hold a free public event, but hasn’t supplied details yet.

What about Paul and Gingrich? Those campaigns didn’t reply to emails Monday, but Idaho is a good-sized plum that could be plucked at low cost. Idaho’s March 6 Super Tuesday caucus has boosted interest and will likely award the winner all 32 delegates.

Is the Idaho GOP ready? More than ready and elated that the strategy of abandoning the May primary for an earlier caucus is paying off with a Valentine’s Day courtship from a hot candidate.
