While prosecutors have yet to charge Jamee Lee Wade in connection with an incident in December when he was shot by a Fruitland Police officer, Wade is now being held in the Ada County Jail after being arrested by Boise police on a drunken driving charge Friday afternoon.
The 37-year-old Wade is charged with excessive DUI and driving without a valid license following a traffic stop by police around 1 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Fairview Avenue and Hampton Road in west Boise, according to jail records.
A breath test showed that Wade registered a .24 blood alcohol content percentage level at the time of the arrest, which is three times the Idaho legal bac limit of .08, according to Boise police reports.
Police say Wade was stopped in southbound lane of Hampton Road with his car pointed northbound when he was pulled over, according to reports. Wade was still in the Ada County Jail on Monday morning and is set to make his initial court appearance on the DUI charge later in the afternoon.
Fruitland Police Chief J.D. Huff told the Idaho Statesman in December that Wade would be charged with a crime in connection with a Dec. 23 incident when he was shot by an officer investigating a domestic disturbance call by Wades mothers house.
Wade was badly injured in the shooting and was listed in critical condition in the days following but has since recovered.
The Idaho State Police, who are heading the task force investigating the shooting, just turned their completed investigation in last week, Payette County Prosecutor Ann Marie Kelso said. Canyon County prosecutors will now review that report for Payette County and make a charging decision, Kelso said Monday morning.
Not much information has been released about what happened during the confrontation. Police arent saying whether Wade was armed, where the shooting occurred or how many times Wade was shot.
Police do say the Fruitland officer was sent to a home on Northwest 2nd Avenue just after 8 p.m. Dec. 23 after getting a 911 phone call from someone who said Wade was threatening to kill her. Huff said that the caller was Wades mother.
The officer who shot Wade, Bill Copeland, has been with the Fruitland Police Department for eight months and worked as a Weiser police officer before that. Huff said initial information indicates Copeland followed department policy during the confrontation.
Wade has a lengthy misdemeanor criminal history in Idaho, including at least two DUIs and several traffic infractions, according to court records.
