James L. Huffman is charged with a DUI after Boise police say he drove a taxi cab through a red light Friday morning on Veterans Memorial Parkway and hit a Garden City Police patrol car.

The DUI arrest was Huffman’s second in the last decade, with the other occurring in 2003 in Kootenai County, according to police reports.

Garden City Police Chief Jim Bensley said Friday afternoon that it appears Huffman ran through a red light on VMP and smashed into the front end of the patrol car, which was going westbound on Adams Street through the intersection at the time.

Officer John Goodman was treated for minor injuries he sustained in the crash. The 63-year-old Huffman was not hurt, according to reports.

Goodman’s patrol car sustained significant damage as a result of the crash, which happened just after 7:15 a.m.

Boise police reports do not detail the probable cause officers used to establish that Huffman was intoxicated. He was ticketed for the DUI, so Huffman will have to appear in court some time later this month for an arraignment hearing.
