Idaho Vandals drop New Mexico State for third consecutive win

IDAHO 59, NEW MEXICO STATE 58

MOSCOW — Djim Bandoumel's layup with 5 seconds remaining helped Idaho beat New Mexico State.

Kyle Barone, whose pass set up the winning basket, had 16 points and eight rebounds as the Vandals (14-11, 6-4 WAC) won their third in a row. They scored the last six points of the game, holding the Aggies scoreless for the last four minutes.

Bandoumel had 10 points and a career-high six blocked shots, and Stephen Madison had 10 points and nine rebounds for Idaho.

Wendell McKines and Hamidu Rahman scored 12 points for New Mexico State (17-8, 6-3). McKines had a chance to win it at the buzzer but his 3-point try missed.

GONZAGA 73, SAINT MARY'S 59

SPOKANE — Freshman Kevin Pangos scored 27 points and Gonzaga beat No. 16 Saint Mary’s 73-59 on Thursday night to avenge an earlier loss to the West Coast Conference leader.

The win kept alive the hopes of Gonzaga (19-4, 9-2) to win its 12th consecutive regular season title, the second-longest streak in Division 1 history after UCLA’s 13 straight.

But the Zags will need somebody to beat Saint Mary’s (22-3, 11-1), which saw its 12-game winning streak snapped. Their last loss was Dec. 22 to No. 6 Baylor. Rob Sacre and Gary Bell Jr. each added 12 points for Gonzaga.

Matthew Dellavedova had 20 points for Saint Mary’s, which shot just 38 percent from the field (21-of- 55), including going 5 of 21 from 3-point range.

PORTLAND STATE 67, IDAHO STATE 54

POCATELLO — Charles Odum scored 18 points and Chehales Tapscott had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead Portland State to a victory against Idaho State.

Renado Parker had 11 points and Nate Lozeau 10 for the Vikings (12-12, 6-6 Big Sky), who shot 1 of 14 from 3-point range but made up for it at the free-throw line, going 20 for 25.

Melvin Morgan scored 18 points and Kenny McGowen 13 for the Bengals (8-16, 6-6).

OREGON 82, WASHINGTON 57

EUGENE, Ore. — Reserve Carlos Emory scored 16 points and Oregon knocked off Washington with a resounding victory.

Garrett Sim, E.J. Singler and Devoe Joseph all added 13 points for the Ducks (17-7, 8-4 Pac-12), who pulled within one game of the Huskies (16-8, 9-3) in the conference standings.

UTAH STATE 77LOUISIANA TECH 63

LOGAN, Utah — Preston Medlin scored 22 points and Kyisean Reed added 20 points and a game-high nine rebounds as Utah State topped Louisiana Tech.
