Ballet Idaho's 'Fiery & Magical'

  • 8 p.m. Feb. 10, 2 and 8 p.m. Feb. 11 and 2 p.m. Feb. 12, Special Events Center, Boise State University. $35, $40 and $55. Select-a-Seat. 343-0556, BalletIdaho.org.

Ballet Idaho takes on some great Russian music in this repertory concert. The fiery side comes from artistic director Peter Anastos’ take on Stravinsky’s “The Firebird.” It’s based on a folk tale about a magical bird-woman that helps a prince rescue his princess from an evil enchanter. Set to music by Shostakovich, dancers become acrobats, clowns, tigers and horses in ballet master Alex Ossadnick’s “Circus.” Choreographer Ryan Jolicoeur Nye sets his romantic pas de deux to Tchaikovsky’s love theme from “Romeo and Juliet.”
