NOTABLE NEIGHBORS

Lee Ann Turner, Jason Herbeck and Del Parkinson, Boise State University faculty members, were recognized by the university’s College of Arts and Science’s for excellence in teaching, creative activity/research and community engagement.

Turner teaches in the Department of Art, Herbeck in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, and Parkinson in the Department of Music.

Winners were selected by the college’s Honors and Awards committee, and the presentation of awards was made by Tony Roark, interim dean and professor of philosophy.

Paige Olivetti, a sixth-grade teacher at North Star Charter School, has been awarded a classroom grant for $360 from Northwest Professional Educators, the state’s only nonunion professional teacher association. The grant will fund purchase of mentor texts to help students master the “Six Traits of Writing.”

Northwest Professional Educators is a nonprofit, nonunion, professional educators’ organization focused on students as educators’ highest priority and improving the professionalism of education.

Cyndi Friend Kay, vice president, financial consultant and branch manager at D.A. Davidson & Co.’s Boise office, has been named recipient of the 2011 Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award. The award is the firm’s highest honor and is given annually to a Davidson Companies associate in recognition of outstanding volunteerism.

She joined the firm in October 2008 with 29 years experience in the financial services industry, most recently with RBC Wealth Management. Kay is a Certified Financial Planner professional.

The Bragg Lewis Knutson Community Service Award was established in 1995 in memory of Gene Lewis, Bob Bragg and Don Knutson, three executives who perished in the 1994 crash of the Davidson Companies airplane near Great Falls. All three were active in community and professional service. The award recognizes an associate who is dedicated to the same spirit of outstanding community service.
