FRESNO, Calif. Tyler Johnson equaled a career high with 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Fresno State defeated Idaho 65-55 on Thursday night. Jerry Brown added 14 points and 10 rebounds in helping Fresno State (10-14, 2-6 Western Athletic) end an eight-game losing streak against Idaho. Kyle Barone had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Vandals (11-11, 4-4), who shot 38.5 percent from the field. Deremy Geiger and Mansa Habeeb added 12 points each.
IDAHO STATE MENS BASKETBALL: Kenny McGowen scored a career-high 30 points and scored the game-winning layup with 10 seconds left in overtime to lift the Bengals to an 87-86 victory at Montana State their fourth straight win. The Bengals (8-14) finished with four players in double figures.
ISU WOMENS BASKETBALL: Katie Bussey scored 41 points for Montana State as the Bobcats rolled past the Bengals 79-67 in Pocatello. It was the first conference loss of the season for Idaho State (16-6, 8-1 Big Sky). Kaela Oakes scored 17 points to lead three Bengals in double figures.
COLLEGE OF IDAHO BASEBALL: The Coyotes opened the 2012 season with a 7-2 victory over Wayland Baptist at the NAIA Desert Classic in Anthem, Ariz. Jarel Lewis recorded three doubles, and Izaac Garsez hit a home run for the C of I.
LEWIS-CLARK STATE BASEBALL: Sophomore Kyle Knigge hit his first career home run, but the Warriors dropped their season opener to Point Loma Nazarene 9-8 in 10 innings at the Arizona Desert Classic.
