The Idaho Statesman has won one of 10 national awards for journalism excellence given by its parent company.

The Statesman won a President’s Award from the McClatchy Co. for its creation of Business Insider magazine. McClatchy said the weekly magazine expanded local business coverage at a time when readers are thirsty for thoughtful and thorough economic reporting.

The annual President’s Awards are the highest employee honors given by the company.

Business Insider, launched in January 2011, was created in a difficult economic time with lots of advice from the business community, Statesman Editor Vicki Gowler said.

“Folks around the building contributed to its success in ways large and small,” she said. “It was truly a team effort."

The magazine complements the Statesman's print and online business coverage by offering in-depth articles about Idaho business and economic trends, issues, people and achievements, along with local columns and other regular features.

The magazine costs $2 per issue, although seven-day and five-day Statesman subscribers can now receive it at no extra charge by calling the newspaper's circulation department at 377-6370.
