Idaho Falls billionaire VanderSloot among Romney’s big-money boosters

Super Pac superman? Frank VanderSloot’s Melaleuca Inc. and three affiliates exporting to Asia each gave $250,000 to Restore Our Future, the independent campaign founded by three top aides from Mitt Romney’s 2008 presidential campaign.

11 gave $1 million or more The PAC reported $17.9 million in second-half 2011 fundraising after Romney’s big win in Florida Tuesday.

Idaho connection: VanderSloot is a billionaire whose wellness- and household-products empire is based in Idaho Falls. A national finance co-chairman for Romney, he hosted fundraisers in the 2008 and 2012 campaigns.

Romney in Idaho? The GOP canceled its May presidential primary and will hold a first-ever caucus March 6. Idaho has 32 delegates, not that many less than Florida’s 50. Romney has scheduled a $1,000-per-person fundraiser in Boise on Feb. 17.

Why shell out a million? “Gov. Romney’s track record demonstrates his acumen in creating jobs and providing the leadership America needs,” VanderSloot said.
