The forecast is fun and snowy for the 47th McCall Winter Carnival. Theres a four-page pullout guide in the middle of Scene this week, but in case you missed it (translation: someone snagged it), heres a quick overview:
HIGHLIGHTS
It all kicks off with the Childrens Torchlight Parade at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 27. Children 11 and younger will light up the night with glow sticks. Then hang out in Depot Park for the opening bonfire and fireworks show.
See dozens of snow sculptures at the City Snow Sculpting contest. Judging is in the evening Jan. 27.
Party on the streets at noon Jan. 28 for the traditional Mardi Gras Parade. Its filled with masked characters, floats, bands and Mardi Gras beads to hoard.
Watch eight professional artists vie for top Idaho State Championship Snow Sculpting honors. They start at 10 a.m. Jan. 31 and work around the clock until 10 a.m. Feb. 3, when judging starts.
If you like motocross, youll love snowcross. The Flash Point Snowbike Race features races for professional and novice riders, and a childrens race. It starts at 6 p.m. 2:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the McCall Golf Course.
NEW THIS YEAR
McCall Starz on Ice presents Enchanted Earth with Olympic bronze medalist Jozef Sabovcik and a cast of professional and community skaters. Manchester Ice and Event Centre, 6 p.m. Jan. 28, 2 p.m. Jan. 29, $15 and $25 at (208) 634-3570.
Belly up to the Barley Brothers Winter Ale Festival 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 3 and noon to 9 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Alpine Village. It includes charity snowball fights, bands, an ice disco and more than 100 ales, porters, stouts and seasonal beers. $20 per person.
