The size of donations to the College of Western Idaho's soon-to-be professional-technical school in Nampa didn't determine whose name will be on the building.

The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation kicked in $13 million to help renovate the old Sam's Club into the vocational school. The Micron Foundation put up $2.5 million.

So who will the school be named after? Micron, the school announced Wednesday.

College President Bert Glandon told the Idaho Statesman that when CWI was working with the Albertson Foundation, he told them he assumed the school would bear the Albertson name. But the foundation did not want that, Glandon said.

As a private family foundation, Albertson doesn't need to advertise, foundation officials said. Letting businesses that need to advertise put their names on buildings could encourage more giving, the foundation said.
