KUNA — If not for one measly turnover, Tyler Dubowsky would have had a perfect game.

The senior forward didn’t miss a single shot as the Kuna High boys basketball team cruised to a 67-44 victory over Skyview on Thursday night.

Dubowsky, a 6-foot-6, four-year starter, was 9-for-9 from the field — including 3-for-3 from 3-point range — for a game-high 21 points in just 13 minutes, 15 seconds of play.

“He spent a lot of time over the summer working with (former Boise State player) Roberto Bergersen, just shooting hours a day,” Kuna coach Randy Brothers said. “It’s allowed him to have moments where if he’s set and his feet are ready, he’s going to knock down those shots.”

But Dubowsky wasn’t the only Kuna player with an impeccable shooting touch against the Hawks.

The Kavemen shot 63 percent from the field for the game and an impressive 77.3 percent in the second half.

“We’ve talked about passing up a good shot for a great shot,” Brothers said. “… They’ve done a good job of that and they’ve done a great job of making that one extra pass. It’s paying off.”

Thursday’s lights-out performance in combination with Middleton’s loss to Caldwell gives the Kavemen (7-6, 6-3) sole possession of second place in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference and a season sweep of the Hawks (8-5, 5-4). It was also Kuna’s fourth consecutive victory.

“I feel like as a team we are moving ahead. We are moving up those stairs,” Dubowsky said.

Three other Kavemen finished in double figures. Senior point guard Kyle Hoch and junior forward Steven Doughty each contributed 11 points, and senior guard James Simmons added 10 points and six assists.

“Our whole team had confidence,” Hoch said. “Our big thing is having confidence when we shoot the ball, and I know everybody had it tonight.”

While the Hawks were able to keep up with the Kavemen’s frenetic pace, they couldn’t match Kuna’s shooting.

Skyview — which returned one starter from last year’s state runner-up team — shot just 24.6 percent from the field and 20.7 percent from 3-point range two days removed from a victory over first-place Bishop Kelly.

Juniors Toby Anderson and Lane Robbins scored nine points apiece to lead the Hawks, who lost 50-35 to Kuna on Dec. 8.

“For us, we are just going to worry about what we’re going to do in terms of just playing Kuna basketball, playing as a team and playing unselfish,” Brothers said. “I think if we do that, we’ll be in a lot of the games that we play.”
