KUNA If not for one measly turnover, Tyler Dubowsky would have had a perfect game.
The senior forward didnt miss a single shot as the Kuna High boys basketball team cruised to a 67-44 victory over Skyview on Thursday night.
Dubowsky, a 6-foot-6, four-year starter, was 9-for-9 from the field including 3-for-3 from 3-point range for a game-high 21 points in just 13 minutes, 15 seconds of play.
He spent a lot of time over the summer working with (former Boise State player) Roberto Bergersen, just shooting hours a day, Kuna coach Randy Brothers said. Its allowed him to have moments where if hes set and his feet are ready, hes going to knock down those shots.
But Dubowsky wasnt the only Kuna player with an impeccable shooting touch against the Hawks.
The Kavemen shot 63 percent from the field for the game and an impressive 77.3 percent in the second half.
Weve talked about passing up a good shot for a great shot, Brothers said. Theyve done a good job of that and theyve done a great job of making that one extra pass. Its paying off.
Thursdays lights-out performance in combination with Middletons loss to Caldwell gives the Kavemen (7-6, 6-3) sole possession of second place in the 4A Southern Idaho Conference and a season sweep of the Hawks (8-5, 5-4). It was also Kunas fourth consecutive victory.
I feel like as a team we are moving ahead. We are moving up those stairs, Dubowsky said.
Three other Kavemen finished in double figures. Senior point guard Kyle Hoch and junior forward Steven Doughty each contributed 11 points, and senior guard James Simmons added 10 points and six assists.
Our whole team had confidence, Hoch said. Our big thing is having confidence when we shoot the ball, and I know everybody had it tonight.
While the Hawks were able to keep up with the Kavemens frenetic pace, they couldnt match Kunas shooting.
Skyview which returned one starter from last years state runner-up team shot just 24.6 percent from the field and 20.7 percent from 3-point range two days removed from a victory over first-place Bishop Kelly.
Juniors Toby Anderson and Lane Robbins scored nine points apiece to lead the Hawks, who lost 50-35 to Kuna on Dec. 8.
For us, we are just going to worry about what were going to do in terms of just playing Kuna basketball, playing as a team and playing unselfish, Brothers said. I think if we do that, well be in a lot of the games that we play.
