Connor Hankel, 8, from Boise lines up a cross and hammers it into the ground on Saturday morning in front of the St. Mark's Church. Connor's mother is the St. Mark's Resect Life coordinator and she says her family has participated in the event for the past 5 years. "The crosses really help to gain awareness to the people driving," Hankel said. The annual event marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion in January 1973, pro-life groups placed 3,200 crosses on the lawn at St. Mark's Church on Saturday. The crosses represent the number of abortions in the United States each day, organizers say. SHAWN RAECKE — Shawn Raecke / The Idaho Statesm
