Elementary Principal Vickie Renfro will serve as interim superintendent after the Horseshoe Bend School Board accepted John Cook’s resignation Thursday night.

Cook had been put on administrative leave Tuesday “due to personal reasons,” School District officials said.

Rob Greiner, business manager for the district, offered no further explanation for the resignation or the district’s actions.

Cook was placed on leave after a meeting Tuesday in which Don Reiman of Boise submitted a letter written by his daughter, Jana Reiman, that outlines what she calls her 2011 “marriage” to Cook, who is already married.

In the letter, she refers to Cook as her “husband” and as “Dad.” The two were not married in a civil ceremony and did not take out a marriage license, Don Reiman said.

Reiman said that after talking to state and local authorities, he knows of no laws that are being broken.

Cook’s wife, Crystal Cook, is listed under “support staff” as a music teacher on the website for the Horseshoe Bend School District.

Reiman’s daughter, who refers to herself as Jana Cook, is a substitute teacher in that district and the Emmett School District, Reiman said.

John Cook, Crystal Cook and Jana Cook could not be reached for comment Thursday.
