The Boise State mens basketball team didnt get much time to savor Saturdays win over rival Idaho.
The Broncos (10-4) boarded a plane Sunday morning and began preparing for Monday nights game at Fresno State (6-8) shortly after arriving in California.
Its the final nonconference game of the season for BSU, which doesnt play again until its Jan. 14 Mountain West opener against Air Force.
The Broncos, however, arent looking ahead. Even though they beat Fresno State 70-63 on Dec. 19 in Boise, they expect a tougher time at the Save Mart Center.
Its going to be really difficult because its always tough to beat a team twice, BSU point guard Wes Perryman said. They go back and watch film, look at their mistakes and adjust. Were going to have to play tougher and stronger and be mentally tough.
Boise State finally did get a win away from Taco Bell Arena when it beat Idaho in Nampa, but the Broncos still are seeking their first road victory.
Were making strides, Boise State coach Leon Rice said. I think were making progress. On the road, you cant play your C game. Youve got to play your A or B game to have a chance.
Rice said Mondays game would have been tough under any circumstances, but three things add to the degree of difficulty this time.
No. 1 is bouncing back from an emotional game, said Rice, referring to the 76-73 win over Idaho.
No. 2 is physically. Anthony (Drmic) played a lot of minutes on a bum ankle, and Jeff (Elorriaga) and Wes played a lot of minutes, too. And then we had to travel.
And No. 3, what we found when we played Fresno the last time is how hard they play. We have to be up to the challenge, and its a challenge playing on the road.
In the first meeting, Fresno State guard Kevin Olekaibe scored 28 points. Boise State countered with a double-double by forward Ryan Watkins.
We have to contain him better, Perryman said. We have to do everything we did the last game but at a higher level. Weve got to rebound better and defend their bigs.
