Jose Lopez, 15, right, laughs with Capt. Randy Roper, Boise police, and friends Ray Hernandez, left, and his wife Martha Hernandez, at Old Chicago in downtown Boise Sunday Dec. 25, 2011. About 1,400 people were treated to a Christmas Day meal at the restaurant with over 100 volunteers helping serve food and deliver gift bags filled with clothing, shoes, Albertsons Gift Cards and more. "It's an emotional experience to reach out and help the community," said event organizer Brent Giroux. The meal was intended to help homeless people and struggling families. "We do it because there's a need," he said. "Watching them enjoy this makes my whole Christmas." The event is aided Boise Rescue Mission, Lighthouse Rescue Mission, City Light Home for Women and Children and Interfaith Sanctuary Housing. Members of the Boise Police and friends helped and other sponsors include Albertson/SuperValu, Inc., J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation, Tree Top Ranches, CraftWorks Foundation, Boyds Coffee and Ocean Spray.
