Boise resident and former major-league star Bill Buckner will join the club for the 2012 season, according to various media reports.

The Hawks are the short-season Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, which hires and assigns its minor-league coaches. Buckner returned to managing last summer with the independent Brockton (Mass.) Rox.

The Hawks and Cubs announced Wednesday that former major-league catcher Mark Johnson will return to Boise as manager, along with pitching coach David Rosario.
