Food Notes: Wiseguy Pizza will open this month

Posted: 12:00am on Dec 9, 2011

Wiseguy Pizza Pie will take over the former Chronic Tacos space at 106 N. 6th St. in late December.

It’s the third restaurant for the owners of Wiseguy, a small chain out of Hailey.

Wiseguy serves hand-tossed, New-York style pizza with red, white, olive oil and pesto sauces — by the pie and by the slice. It also has salads, calzones, sandwiches, wings and a selection of craft brews and wine.

If you’re familiar with Wiseguy in the Wood River Valley, you’ll find your favorites from that menu, plus a few new items.

A new website is being developed for Boise. But you can check out the current one at WiseguyPizzaPie.com and follow the progress on Facebook.

NEW LOCAL COOKBOOK

The folks at Ballard Family Dairy and Cheese in Gooding now have a cookbook for their Idaho Golden Greek Cheese, filled with recipes created by chef Jane Deal.

It’s halloumi-style cheese that’s made for cooking, Deal says. When it’s made, the curds are cooked so it will caramelize on the outside but won’t melt when you grill it on a kabob, saute it in a pan or bake it in the oven.

You can get the cheese at the Vogel Farms Store in Kuna, the Boise Co-op, all WinCos and the Karcher Market in Nampa. It’s also available at local produce stands.

To find out where you can get the cookbook, go to BallardCheese.com. It will cost $12.95. You also can find a few of the recipes on PlainJaneCooking.com.

CITY BUFFET OPENS

There is a new buffet to belly up to: City Buffet, 8049 W. Fairview Ave., Boise, in the Shopko Center at Milwaukee Street.

You’ll find more than 200 dishes of Chinese and Japanese cuisine, including traditional Szechuan, Cantonese and Hunan specialties, hibachi-grilled items and sushi rolls. It’s all you can eat and costs $7.95 for lunch, $10.95 for dinner.

Lunch starts at 11 a.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Dinner is 4 to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 4 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Sunday’s all-day buffet goes from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
