John Bolin

John Bolin is no stranger to celebrity. He’s rubbed shoulders with rock stars for decades, creating one-of-a-kind instruments for ZZ Top, the Rolling Stones and Steve Miller in his Bolin Guitars shop in Boise. He’s also received a significant amount of local media attention for his craft over the years — including in 2009, when he delivered two stunning Twin Cam Harley-Davidson guitars to High Desert Harley-Davidson in Meridian.

Still, Bolin sounds truly honored to be one of 21 gifted luthiers profiled in “Electrified: The Art of the Contemporary Electric Guitar” (by Robert Shaw, 272 pages, Sterling Signature, $35.)

“It’s pretty groovy,” Bolin admits.

The elegant, illustration-packed coffee-table book — which includes a six-page spread on Bolin — is the next best thing to buying an actual custom ax for the guitar aficionado on your Christmas list.
