Five residents of Canyon County’s District 10 have applied to fill the remaining 14 months of Rep. Pat Takasugi’s term, and on Wednesday night that district’s GOP Central Committee chairs will choose finalists to forward to Gov. Butch Otter.

The deadline for applications was Monday night, but District 10 Rep. Darrell Bolz said it’s possible – although not likely – that additional names could be nominated at Wednesday’s meeting.

Takasugi, first elected to District 10’s House Seat A in 2008, died Nov. 6 after a battle with appendix cancer.

The five applicants, all District 10 residents, are: Gayle Batt of Wilder, who filled in for Takasugi during the 2011 legislative session; Scott Syme of Wilder; Tom Tingey of Caldwell; Kent Marmon of Caldwell; and Jim Rice of Caldwell.

Otter will select one of the finalists to complete Takasugi’s term, which continues through 2012.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the public meeting room of the Canyon County Courthouse, 1115 Albany St., Caldwell.
