A grass fire that was reported at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cole and Vallejo roads burned about 30 acres, according to Boise Fire spokeswoman Lynn Hightower. Another fire just north of there at the same time burned about an acre. No structures were damaged.

The cause of the fires is under investigation.

The first fire was burning off of Flying Hawk Lane, near the World Center for Birds of Prey, when easterly winds shifted to the south and pushed the fire into fast-burning grasses.

At that time, fire commanders called for structure protection as a precaution.

The fire grew to about 30 acres, but Boise Fire and BLM crews were able to get the flames knocked down. At 3:45 p.m., they were putting out hot spots and mopping up.

The fire was contained west of Flying Hawk, south of Vallejo and west of Cole.

Boise Fire sent six engines, one ladder truck, a water tender and a brush rig, while BLM sent four brush rigs and a dozer. There were commanders and safety officers from both agencies.
