The Boise Hawks are heating up at the right time.

Boise defeated the Vancouver Canadians 4-2 in front of 3,005 fans Thursday night at Memorial Stadium.

The win was Boise’s fourth in a row. More importantly, it kept the Hawks’ postseason hopes alive with two games to play.

Boise needs a couple of scenarios to play out to qualify for the Northwest League playoffs:

-- The Hawks need Tri-City — the first-half champion — to finish atop the East Division’s second-half standings. After Thursday’s games, Tri-City has a one-game lead atop the division.

-- Boise needs to finish with a better overall record than Spokane. The Hawks have a one-game lead over the Indians in the season standings.

In Thursday’s win, starter Austin Reed tossed five shutout innings to earn the win. Bryce Shafer got the final three outs for his 12th save, becoming the first Hawks pitcher since Bo Donaldson in 1997 to record more than 11 saves in a season.

The Hawks’ winning streak is their longest since June.
