John K. Orr was killed after his car was hit by a pickup truck that went through a stop sign on Swan Falls Road Thursday night, according to Idaho State Police reports.

Orr's 12-year-old son, who was a passenger in the car, was taken by ambulance to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise following the crash as a precaution, Ada County Sheriff's officials said Thursday.

ISP officials say the 45-year-old Orr was driving a 1994 Chrysler New Yorker car southbound on Swan Falls Road just after 7:30 p.m. when his car was hit by a pickup truck.

ISP officials say 33-year-old Brian A. Mulherin of Kuna was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup westbound on E. Kings Road when he drove through a stop sign and right into the side of Orr's car.

The force of the impact caused the car and the truck to leave the road and come to a rest in a field in the southwest corner of the intersection, according to ISP reports.

Orr was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Orr, his son, and Mulherin were all wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash and ISP officials say it does not appear as if alcohol or drug use was a factor in the crash.

The crash is still under investigation and no citations had been issued as of early Friday morning.
