CONFERENCE PLAY GETS A SHAKEUP
Caldwell Highs petition to move down to the 4A Southern Idaho Conference was approved in January, dropping the 5A Southern Idaho Conference from 11 teams to 10.
The change prompted a revamped schedule, as the league opted to do away with two divisions.
This means that for the first time since 2005, every team in the 5A SIC will play each other once, with each game counting toward the postseason.
With the exception of Rocky Mountain and Vallivue each were granted an extra game by the IHSAA 5A SIC teams will no longer have room on their nine-game regular-season schedules for a nonconference or non-division contest at the start of the year.
The way the conference has changed having all the teams play each other and no pod system will make the upcoming season very challenging, Centennial coach Lee Neumann said.
The 2010 state runner-up starts its season at home against perennial conference front-runner Capital. Both teams were picked to finish near the top of the 5A SIC, meaning the season opener could have playoff implications.
