  • FOURTH OF JULY PARKING OPTIONS

    Free public parking is provided by Boise State University in the Brady Garage (accessible from Brady Street).

    Capital City Development Corporation is providing free parking all day in Downtown Boise in these public garages:

    • Eastman: 848 W. Main St.

    • Capitol Terrace: 770 W. Main St.

    • City Centre: 312 S. 9th St.

    • Grove Street: 230 S. 10th St.

    • Boulevard: 245 S. Capitol Blvd.

    • Myrtle Street: 789 W. Broad Street

    MORE FOURTH OF JULY TIPS

    If you plan to visit the park to view the fireworks, be mindful of the following:

    • No fireworks or sparklers are allowed in the park. This will be strictly enforced.

    • Leave pets at home.

    • Consider bringing water, sunscreen, bug spray, flashlight and a blanket or chair to sit on.

    • No glass bottles are allowed in the park.

    • Use recycle receptacles in the park for cans, plastic bottles and plastic cups.

    • Alcoholic beverages are illegal within 250 feet of the Boise River.

  • SCHEDULE OF EVENTS AT ANN MORRISON

    8 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Idaho Statesman Chalk Art Festival

    1 to 4 p.m.: Chalk Land for kids

    1 to 7 p.m.: Kids activities

    5 p.m.: Idaho Statesman Chalk Art Festival awards, including KeyBank People’s Choice Award

    5:15 to 6:30 p.m.: The Mystics

    7 to 8 p.m.: Boise Community Band

    8:45 to 10 p.m.: Pilot Error

    10:15 p.m.: Fireworks

The 2011 Fourth of July fireworks display will start at about 10:15 p.m. in Ann Morrison Park. The event is free to the public and will be simulcast on KIVI Channel 6 and 107.1 K-Hits.

Earlier in the day, don’t miss the Idaho Statesman Chalk Art Festival, presented by Craft Warehouse.

Aspiring artists of all skill levels 12 and older can draw their own masterpieces on the park’s sidewalks from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pre-registration ($10) is required at www.IdahoStatesman.com/ChalkArt. Chalk will be provided. The event will benefit children’s programs at the Boise Art Museum. Spectators can vote for the People’s Choice Award, sponsored by KeyBank.

You’ll also be able to watch featured artists Liz Wolf, Rick Thomson, Geoff Everts and Ed Anderson create chalk art. Kids younger than 12 can enjoy their own Chalk Land, sponsored by St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, for free from 1 to 4 p.m. Boise Parks and Recreation’s Mobile Recreation Program will provide free kids activities from 1 to 7 p.m.

Live music, new to the event this year, will be performed on the Peterson Toyota Stage by The Mystics, the Boise Community Band and Pilot Error. Food vendors will also be on hand.

The annual fireworks display is possible because of support from the City of Boise, the Idaho Statesman, KIVI Today’s 6, 107.1 K-Hits, Fred Meyer, Boise Housing Corporation, Tomlinson & Associates, Rocky Mountain Audio Visual, Idaho Independent Bank, Northwest Nazarene University School of Business, George and Bev Harad, Idaho Power, Intermountain Gas Co., J.R. Simplot Co. and the Micron Foundation.
