Mark Thomas Johnson is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony DUI charge after Boise police say he was caught driving drunk in the North End Wednesday night.
The DUI arrest was Johnson's third since 2001 in Ada County, according to Idaho court records, which is why he was charged with the felony.
A patrol officer pulled over Johnson near the intersection of 15th and Main Streets around 7:30 p.m. after watching him make an illegal lane change, according to reports.
The officer said he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Johnson, who also appeared to be very intoxicated, according to reports.
Police say the 50-year-old Johnson failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to the jail, where a blood sample was taken for later testing. A blood alcohol content level was not available because Johnson declined to take a breath test, according to reports.
Court records indicate Johnson has DUI convictions from 2001 and 2005.
Johnson was also charged with a misdemeanor charge of driving without privileges - after losing his license in connection with a previous DUI, according to police reports.
Johnson will make his initial court appearance later Thursday.
The crime of felony DUI is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
