December 8, 2010 

JULY 3: Mary Elizabeth Anania is born in Jacksonville, Fla., to Elizabeth and Vincent Anania.


MAY: Elizabeth graduates from UNC Law School.

JULY 30: Elizabeth marries John Edwards.


Elizabeth begins working as an associate at Harwell Barr Martin & Sloan, a law firm in Nashville, Tenn.


JULY 18: The couple's first child, Lucius Wade, is born.


John and Elizabeth move their family back to Raleigh, where she begins working in the N.C. Attorney General's Office, and later as a bankruptcy lawyer at Merriman, Nicholls, and Crampton.


MARCH 4: The couple's second child, Catharine Elizabeth ("Cate"), is born.


APRIL 4: Wade Edwards is killed in an automobile accident on Interstate 40. Elizabeth retires from her legal practice and becomes administrator of the Wade Edwards Foundation.


APRIL 24: At age 48, Elizabeth gives birth to Emma Claire.

NOV. 3: John Edwards is elected U.S. senator.


MAY 19: Elizabeth gives birth to a son, John Atticus ("Jack").


SEPT. 16: John announces his run for the presidency.


MARCH 3: John withdraws from presidential race.

JULY 6: Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry announces that John Edwards will be his running mate.

NOV. 3: John and Elizabeth Edwards get confirmation that she has cancer.


MAY: Edwards says he will not run for president if his wife's health worsens.

SUMMER: The family moves into a new 28,200-square-foot home outside Chapel Hill.

SEPTEMBER: Elizabeth releases a book, "Saving Graces: Finding Solace and Strength from Friends and Strangers"

DEC. 28: John announces he will run for president in 2008.


MARCH 22: John and Elizabeth Edwards announce her cancer has returned and is incurable. They plan to continue with the campaign.


JAN. 30: John Edwards suspends his campaign for president.

AUG. 8: John admits to an affair with campaign videographer Rielle Hunter.


MAY: Elizabeth's second book, "Resilience: Reflections on the Burdens and Gifts of Facing Life's Adversities," is published.

MAY: Elizabeth is interviewed on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" about her husband's affair and her new book.

AUGUST: Elizabeth opens a furniture store in Chapel Hill


JAN. 21: John Edwards admits publicly that he is the father of Rielle Hunter's baby. He and Elizabeth officially separate.

JUNE 29: Updated version of "Resilience" is released. The paperback version adds a chapter on the breakup. Interviews follow, including the "Today" show and "Larry King Live."

JUNE: Elizabeth announces plans to sell the Chapel Hill house.

SEPTEMBER: Elizabeth appears on "The Nate Berkus Show" during the show's premiere week.
