John Hoverson is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony charge of eluding police and misdemeanor counts of DUI and resisting arrest after Kuna police say say he led officers on a short car and then foot chase by 10 Mile/Deer Flat roads neighborhood Sunday night.
Police say they had to use a Taser to subdue the 41-year-old Hoverson after they say he crashed his car into a stop sign and tried to run away, according to Ada County Sheriff’s reports.
The incident began around 11 p.m. Sunday when a Kuna police officer saw a car speeding on northbound Ten Mile Road and turned on his overhead lights, in an attempt to pull over that car, according to Ada County Sheriff’s reports.
Police say the driver, later identified as Hoverson, did not stop but continued driving north on Ten Mile Road, then turning on to Deer Flat Road. The car then turned south on to Kolnes Avenue, where the driver turned off the headlights and made several turns in a residential neighborhood, before getting back on Ten Mile Road.
Police say Hoverson then drove south, to the West Sego Prairie Street intersection, where he drove the car into a stop sign. At that point police say Hoverson got out of his car and ran away into a nearby yard. An officer chasing Hoverson on foot deployed a Taser, which hit Hoverson in the back and knocked him over.
Hoverson was arrested without incident at that point, according to Sheriff’s reports.
An alcohol breath test at the jail revealed Hoverson had a .09 blood alcohol level, which is above the .08 legal limit, according to sheriff’s reports.
Hoverson is also charged with being a Fugitive to Idaho. Sheriff’s officials say he is wanted on a felony warrant for a probation violation in California. He is expected to be extradited to California on that warrant at a later date.
The Ada County Sheriff's office provides contract police service for Kuna.
