Mountain View High defensive end Tyler Horn is bound for Boise State.
Some recruiting Web sites reported the 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior committed to the Broncos in mid-January, but Horn said he didn't make it official until Saturday, when he verbally committed after an official visit to the campus.
The 5A Southern Idaho Conference Defensive Player of the Year and All-Idaho first-team selection finished his senior season with 50 tackles - nine for loss - and 12.5 sacks.
"I think he has the measurables, for sure," said Mountain View coach Judd Benedick. "He's 6-4 and his dad is taller than that, so he should continue to grow. He has the frame and moves really well for a kid that size."
Horn will grayshirt his first semester before joining the team for spring practice in 2011.
"I am really excited," said Horn, who transferred to Mountain View after his sophomore year at Borah. "Being one of the hometown kids makes it even more exciting. It still hasn't quite settled in."
Horn, who is currently playing basketball at Mountain View, won't be the only former Maverick on Boise State's roster. Bronco wide receiver Tyler Shoemaker, who had 21 receptions for 345 yards and two touchdowns during the 2009 season, is a 2007 Mountain View graduate.
"I love it," Benedick said. "For our program, it is pretty cool to say you've got a kid in your program who's going to play with a team like that. It's great for our younger kids to see and strive for a goal like that."
Horn is the second local football player to commit to the Broncos, joining Capital tight end/defensive back Kyle Sosnowski. Both players will sign national letters of intent Wednesday - the initial signing date for football, soccer, track and field and cross country.
