After seven seasons as the head football coach at Caldwell High, Matt Strong has decided to step down.
Strong, who also coached four seasons at Skyview High in Nampa before taking over at Caldwell and has been a head coach since he was 27, made the move to pursue a job in educational administration and spend more time with his family.
“Right now I need a change. My kids are at the age to make that change,” Strong said. “Caldwell High School is at a time where they need that change. That’s really what it is. I felt like it was time.”
Strong and his wife, Moss, have two young children — 5-year-old son Mason and 8-year-old daughter Maddee.
“Matt is an outstanding teacher and coach who has lead our football program with steadfast determination,” Caldwell principal Mike Farris said in a release. “He will continue to positively impact students at our school as a teacher in our physical education department.”
In seven seasons with the Cougars, Strong finished with an overall record of 27-29.
A search for the next head coach is already under way.
