Rick DeChambeau is bereft over the loss of his beloved pooch, which he says was snatched from a Boise parking lot in September. He's offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the return of the miniature dachshund, Pretzel.

"I would give anything I could to get her back," DeChambeau said.

DeChambeau does emissions testing in front of PoJos, 7736 W. Fairview Ave., Boise. He says his 13-year-old dog was last seen at about 5:55 p.m. Sept. 21 near the emissions van.

"She was out of my sight for about 60 seconds," he said. "I was on the other side of the door. I heard a car drive by, turned around and Pretzel was gone ... I was maybe 10 feet away from her at most. It was unbelievable."

Why would anyone steal a 13-year-old dog?

"She's a little fatty," DeChambeau said of the 21-pound pooch. "It’s my belief that somebody thought she was pregnant ... someone thought her puppies would be worth $300 to $700 each."

"I kind of think whoever had her has pawned her off on somebody else," DeChambeau said.

Pretzel wasn't wearing her collar, and she doesn't have a microchip. But she does have some unique physical characteristics. As a result of surgery from mammary cancer, she has a long scar down her belly and just three nipples. She's supposed to be on medication, DeChameau said.

DeChambeau, who didn't get a look at the vehicle that carried Pretzel away, said he filed a police report about the dog-napping. For weeks, he has posted classified ads in the Idaho Statesman and notices on Craigslist, hoping to find someone who can help bring Pretzel home.

If you have any information about Pretzel, please call DeChambeau: 703-9530, or e-mail boisered55@yahoo.com.
